The Brit Awards 2012 are set to take place on Tuesday 21st February at the O2 Arena in London. The best of the best of British and International music will be represented. Ed Sheeran

British Male Solo Artist

Ed Sheeran
Uses: Boss RC-30 Loop Station
Thanks to his trademark wild red hair, charisma, stage presence, and his innate ability to slip between hip hop, pop and other genres, it wasn’t going to be long before Ed Sheeran was standing on the stage at the O2 Arena clutching a Brit Award. His platinum selling album + is a story of sheer determination and back to basics song writing.
As for the gear he uses, Ed Sheeran is a huge fan of looper pedals and currently records and plays live with a Boss RC-30 Loop Station.

Jessie J

British Female Solo Artist

Jessie J
Uses: Roland Gaia SH-01 Synth
Born and raised in London, Jessie studied at the famed BRIT School before signing with Gut Records and striking a songwriting deal with Sony Music Publishing where she has written for artists including Chris Brown and Miley Cyrus. Now Jessie has struck out on her own and her album “Who You Are” has spawned several hits on both sides of the Atlantic. It is on this album and her future releases that you can hear the epic Roland Gaia. With its huge sound, amazing ease of use and crazily affordable price, the GAIA SH-01 is a “high-performance value synth with old school charm”. With Roland’s Gaia on her side Jessie is sure to be a favourite for this award.

Elbow

Best British Group

Elbow
Use: Roland VK-8 Combo Organ
Elbow had been grinding away in the business for years, before their genius was recognised by the public and critics alike. The boys have been nominated for several awards most notibly the Mercury Music Prize, Brit Awards and several Ivor Novello nods. As for their music, the critically acclaimed and beautiful Seldom Seen Kid was followed by Build a Rocket Boys, which has cemented them in British music history. If you were lucky enough to catch them live on their sell out arena tour, you may have noticed the Roland VK-8 Combo Organ being put to good use to make that authentic organ sound. The Roland VK-8 Combo Organ puts the enhanced “Virtual ToneWheel” sound in an attractively priced single-manual design with a cool new “waterfall” style keyboard. The Roland VK-8 also sports a rotary leslie style speaker modelling based on Roland’s patented COSM technology, new other tones and a D-Beam controller—making it the new leader in combo organs.

DJ Example

British Single

Example
Uses: RD-700NX Stage Piano
“Changed the Way You Kiss Me” comes from Example’s third album, Playing in the Shadows. It sold more than 500,000 copies in 2011 and demonstrated the resurgence of trance influenced dance music. If you’re eagle-eyed on the night you might even spot the Roland RD-700NX Stage Piano being used in Examples performance. The Roland RD700NX Digital Stage Piano is the flagship piano in the RD range with its SuperNATURAL sound engine and deluxe Ivory feel keyboard sets this apart from the rest. This piano truly raises the bar for onstage playability, feel and sound.

Florence & The Machine

British Album of the Year

Florence & The Machine
Use: Juno-Stage Synthesizer & SPD-S Sampling Pad (Replaced by Roland SPD-SX)

Florence Welch won the Best Album Brit for her first album Lungs and since then she’s rocketed to superstardom. After touring the world and winning armies of fans, she returned to prove that she’s still got it. Ceremonials is a triumphant album and testament to what Florence describes as her ‘Maximism’. It’s a huge-sounding album and easily one of the most inventive and interesting releases of 2011. Designed from the ground up for live performers, Roland JUNO-STAGE is a new breed of synthesizer that every gigging keyboardist will love. The Roland Juno Stage features an extra-large display, USB backing-track functionality, a Click output for drummers, dedicated performance knobs, hands-free patch select, instant master MIDI control functionality, and much more. JUNO-STAGE sets a new standard for powerful onstage performance at a friendly price.

Rihanna

International Female Solo Artist

Rihanna
Uses: AX-Synth Shoulder Synthesizer, Fantom G8 Workstation Keyboard & V-Synth GT Synthesizer
A talent of truly international calibre, Rihanna has been delivering hit after hit. She’s stunned us with accomplished albums such as “Loud” and “Talk That Talk” and dazzled us with an eye-popping arena tour. Above all, she’s had the confidence to push her own style and work with trail-blazing producers to create songs that push music in new directions.

Kanye And Jay Zed

International Group

Jay Z/Kanye West
Use: Fantom Workstation Keyboards & SPD-S Sampling Pad (Replaced by Roland SPD-SX)

When the world’s two biggest rappers collided to record an album, it was either going to be an “ego off” with clashing musical perspectives or quite understandably one of the greatest collaborations ever. The results inevitably were astonishing. In reality Jay Z and Kanye were already long-term friends and collaborators as Kanye had worked with Jay Z on his hit album The Blueprint before his own career went stratospheric. The Fantom G Workstations can be heard all over this album along with the now defunct SPD-S Sampling Pad. The Roland Fantom-G is part of the most powerful and luxurious live workstation range in Roland history. The Fantom-G8 is a dream instrument that redefines the boundaries of playability and creativity with its advanced sound engine, revolutionary ARX SuperNATURAL expansion bay, large-sized color LCD, powerful new audio/MIDI sequencer, first-class “Ivory Feel” weighted keys, and more.

Foster The People

International Breakthrough act

Foster The People
Use: V-Drums pads & SPD-SX Sampling Pad
Foster the People are an American indie pop band formed in Los Angeles, California. The group is composed of Mark Foster, Cubbie Fink, and Mark Pontius. The group’s music is described as melodic dance-infused pop and rock which spans many genres. These guys are sure to be favourites to win the International Breakthrough Award having made their hit “Pumped Up Kicks” the sound track to the summer!!!
The Roland SPD-SX Sampling Pad is a powerful tool to accompany any drummer. This unit gives the user perfect creative and innovative features. It has multi effects, velocity sensitive rubber pads and many more features. If you were in any doubt what this can do just check Foster The People’s album and it is clearly audible.
