As an influential post-war blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist, John Lee Hooker was most known for his droning one-chord blues playing that was so different from the Delta Blues of the time. He was said to embody his own unique genre of the blues, even incorporating boogie-woogie piano style and rhythm to his amazing music. His best known songs include “Boom Boom” and “Boogie Chillen” which are both fantastic when you hear them on vinyl. Inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, you will be hard pressed to find a better blues musician than John Lee Hooker.

It’s day 3 of our VOX week at Dolphin Music. In this session, Vox headed down to London’s Hammersmith Apollo and caught up with You Me At Six guitarist Max Helyer, to find out how the Vox AC30C2X and the 55-series Vox guitar play their part. It’s fair to say that this last year has been a pretty big one for pop punk band You Me At Six. The Surrey based group have toured Europe, sold out their headline UK tour, released a hit second album and were nominated for not one, but three Kerrang! awards; including Best British Band, Best Album (Hold Me Down) and scooping the coveted Best Single award for Liquid Conference.
The hardcore scene is thriving, and at its centre are Canadian band Cancer Bats. The band may hail from Canada, but home these days is most definitely on a tour bus, as the guys take their hardcore punk sound (with some metal thrown in) to pretty much every country on the planet. Vox had the chance to catch up with them in Birmingham, where they were on tour supporting Bring Me The Horizon - just before the UK saw Cancer Bats headline their own tour last year! If you read our Cancer Bats blog we posted back in May 2010, it’s clear we’re major fans of the guys here at Dolphin Music. VOX have the pleasure of catching up with the Bat’s and find out exactly why they love VOX gear so much…
