The First Ever Artist Owned Studio
Dolphin Music on Aug 26, 2011
On this day in 1970, Jimi Hendrix opened not only his first recording studio, but the world’s first artist recording studio in New York City’s Greenwich Village. As an influential post-war blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist, John Lee Hooker was most known for his droning one-chord blues playing that was so different from the Delta Blues of the time. He was said to embody his own unique genre of the blues, even incorporating boogie-woogie piano style and rhythm to his amazing music. His best known songs include “Boom Boom” and “Boogie Chillen” which are both fantastic when you hear them on vinyl. Inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, you will be hard pressed to find a better blues musician than John Lee Hooker.
